TWO WEEKS !!! (FUEL 2012 is starting up again Sept 12)

WHAT???????

Serious????? Only two weeks??????

I had to check twice to make sure I was looking at the calendar correctly, but it’s true.

Today is the 29th, and a week from today is the 5th, and a week after that is the 12th.

Man does time fly.

Now while we are two weeks out (Sept 12th) from Fuel starting back up, we are only eight days away from getting together at Champps (11694 Plaza America Dr, Reston, VA 20190) for Happy Hour on Sept 6th at 5:00pm.  It should be a slow week, so try to swing by.  We will be there for a couple of hours, but try to swing by, and please take full advantage of this by inviting a guy that you have been trying to get to come out on Wednesday mornings.

Believe me when I tell you that you won’t ever have an easier opportunity to expose someone, that you have been trying to invite to Fuel, to the guys that show up Wednesday mornings.  Take full advantage of this.  We pay for appetizers, you pay for drinks.

Look forward to seeing you guys in eight days

Family Guy: Week II

This past year we walked through a series titled: My House.  During our time in that series we looked at how the house we grew up in had an impact, not only on who we are as a person, but potentially the house we live in today.  In week two of our Family Guy series we will look at how we have an opportunity to create a powerful family culture.

Just as the house that we grew up in, had a direct impact on who we are, imagine the impact that you could have on generations to come by creating a powerful family culture.  Imagine the amount of pain that could be avoided if every man set out to create that type of family culture.  Imagine the type of individuals a house like that would produce.  Imagine joining us tomorrow morning for week two of Family Guy

See you guys in the am……..7am that is.

Now What???

Men of Fuel

Where has the time gone?  I still find it hard to believe that we are about to enter into the last series of our second year.  With all that we have covered this year we thought it was essential that  we spend a couple of weeks looking at what we should do with all of the information we have gathered this year.

We have tried to do this during the year, with the first week of each series looking at the “What” or what God has to say through the bible about the topic we are discussing.  With that established, the second part of each series has looked at the “So What”, or why is what God has to say about the topic we are discussing relevant to my life today.  With the ‘What” and “So what” covered we moved to the “Now What”, or the “Now” that I know what God says about a topic, and “Now” that I see how it is relevant to my life, then what should I do with that information NOW.

With only the “WHAT” we would be knowledgeable about the bible.  Add the “So what”, and at least we would know why God said what He said, and would begin to see how His Word was relevant in our lives today.  Unfortunately those two by themselves have a tendency to become selfish pursuits, of how much I know and what impact it has on me. Perhaps that is why 95% of all Church activities are geared toward “insiders”.  It isn’t until we understand the “Now What”, that we become doers of the word, and not just hearers of the Word.  Think about it, if Jesus was looking for people with only knowledge, He would have picked the Pharisees as his disciples.

Come on out this Wednesday as we start our final series of the year: “Now What”.  We will spend two weeks looking at putting some action behind all that we have covered this year.

Safe (week 4)

Men of Fuel

It’s crazy how time flies.  I find it hard to believe that it has been almost two years since we started meeting at Hidden Creek.  Sure it seems natural now to pull up in front of Hidden Creek on Wednesday morning for Fuel, but it wasn’t always that way.  As a matter of fact, two years ago we were getting ready to wrap up our final semester of Fuel at the GAP room over by the McPizza Hut in Reston.  I remember standing in front of many of you indicating that our time at the GAP was coming to an end, as the lease was up and we would no longer be able to meet there.  At the time I had no idea where we would be meeting the following fall, but had said that I was sure it would be incredible based only on what God had provided for us to that point.

Over the past two years I have been blessed by every meeting, every series, and every man that has walked through the doors of Fuel.  At the same time I don’t think I have been more convicted by a series than our current series: SAFE.  This series has caused me to step back and consider the last two years of Fuel and potentially the next two years.  Did we play it safe the first two years?  Are you kidding me?  There was nothing safe about setting out on our own.  As a matter of fact it was the opposite of safe, and yet look how God has blessed this ministry.

But what about the next two years?  Could we keep meeting every Wednesday at Hidden Creek Country club?  I think we could.  However I also think that would be the safest thing we could do.

So that is where this current series has brought me……..to the exact same place I was two years ago, which I will share more with you tomorrow.  In the meantime I would ask you to consider the areas of your life where you might be playing it safe.  Areas where God may be calling you out of.

Are you living a life that is worth dying for?

You should be, because someone did.

See you guys in the AM

Identity – Where Are You?

Men of Fuel,

At 3:03 pm last Friday I landed at Dulles airport after five days in Las Vegas, where my company had held their annual Global Sales Kick-Off (GSKO).  To be honest, unless you are about to win the World Series of Poker, or are a performer for Cirque du Soleil there is no reason to be in Vegas for five days.  That place is a grind.  Believe me this is no moral stance against Vegas, this has more to do with health and well-being.

Now I must admit that I might have allowed the excitement of Vegas to cause me to act differently than I would if I was at home.  From eating, to sleeping, to working out, to drinking, to money management, I acted differently (Can you call Poker money management?).  How sad that I would allow a place determine how I acted, that a location could have so much bearing on who I was.

However the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this wasn’t the first time this had happened in my life.  As a matter of fact I think that for the majority of my life, I have allowed a location, or situation determine how I acted, or worse dictate who I was.  It might have been a job, a relationship, a title, a hobby a time of my life, or even a city, but the more I thought about this the more I realized that all too often, where I was determined who I was.

Am I alone?  Or can each of you point to a time in your lives (Maybe even now) where you allowed a location (Job, Relationship, etc.) to determine how you acted, or worse dictate who you were?  Set your alarms and come on out tomorrow morning (6:30am) as we begin our new series “Identity” with week one” “Where are you?”

See you guys in the am.
